A Short Blog About Blogging

My teacher, Don Weed, used to tell a story about his teacher, Marjorie Barstow. When asked if she would consider writing a book about what she’d learned in her vast experience with studying and teaching the Alexander Technique, she simply replied that by the time she had completed her book, she would have learned so much that she’d have to start all over again.

I’ve seen the question posed as to whether or not it’s possible to write an effective blog on the Alexander Technique for this sort of reason, and I think that’s a fair question.

My experience in learning this work is one of continually coming back to concepts and ideas and reexamining them, each time bringing an expanded set of thoughts and experiences to test against Alexander’s principles and strive for deeper understanding.

This blog is intended as a learning tool, and records my understanding as captured at a particular point in time. I see these snapshots of my comprehension of Alexander’s work as provisional, as should anyone else who happens to read them. If it has been more than a year since a post was written, it is a reasonable assumption that my understanding has since evolved.

But, in the meantime, let’s enjoy the journey and see what we learn.
